Hello Habitat Volunteers,

Just because you haven’t heard from your humble scribe recently doesn’t mean nothing is going on. Mr. Ed Perkins has completed painting the interior of the house, and trim has been painted and stored for installation a soon as the flooring goes down. On Saturday the 20th, several stalwart students and a few regulars moved, not a mountain, but a pretty darn nice hill of dirt around while a few others prepared the closet interiors and some other inside details. Saturday the 27th saw a small but jovial crew installing the kitchen cabinets. The bathroom cabinets and sub-top for the kitchen counter will no doubt magically appear in their places during the coming week. I’m not quite sure what will be on hand as the task of the day this coming Saturday, but I’ll let you know as soon as I do.
On a future note, the lot for the next house, (beginning in September?), has been selected. Our purchaser will require special access so the next house will pose new challenges for us. I’m looking forward to it. More on that later.
Meanwhile, keep a lookout here for word on next week.
Prayer concerns: Bob Spencer reported today that Rick Berry is making slow but incremental progress in fighting his way out of the pulmonary jam he found himself in. Bruce Simon is recovering from his shoulder surgery, and in the meantime is squiring Shirley Campbell around to pick out floors and fixtures and such. Keep those prayers going.

Greetings Habitat Volunteers:

Here’s hoping the recent snow led only to a relaxing Friday and enjoyment of the beautiful winter scenery so rare in this neck of the woods! It should also contribute to a quiet and restful Saturday if you planned on being at the house tomorrow. What we need a goodly crew for is mainly dirt moving, and since the recent weather, and the thaw that is ongoing as I tap this message out, the “yard” will resemble a combination monster truck / ATV / mud wrestling, arena, and will not be amenable to shovels and wheelbarrows. We will try again next week!

Hello Happy Habitat Humans!

Thanks to the abundant rainfall, the glee of raising that retaining wall is once again postponed. However, undaunted in the face of the coming downpour, some elves went out today and got it started. Thanks to them.
This coming Saturday we are pretty much limited to fitting window seats and doing the woodwork in the closets so once again a large work group is not needed. What we do need are specialists in window seats, (hint, hint, Captain), and just a few folks to place the blocks up for hanging bars and shelves in the closets. At least we can get that done. In fact, the need is so limited that no lunch will be provided. Pray that God will see fit to dry things up a bit in the weeks to come.
Speaking of prayer, our list grows:
Rick Berry is now in Good Shepherd, Longview, showing incremental but fairly steady improvement, even with a brief crisis yesterday, back from which he seems to have bounced. Keep fighting, Rick.
Our own Bruce Simon is undergoing rotator cuff surgery in the next few days, and will need our prayers for strength and speedy recovery. Because of his injury, he won’t be playing Sunday, but a fine young backup named Brees, I believe, hopes to be able to fill his shoes, and Bruce looks forward to training camp later on in the year.
Bruce’s extended family likewise needs pleas for intervention. His father in law is Bob Canterbury, is recovering from a light stroke and is out of ICU, and his daughter’s father in law, Bob Alexander, suffered a stroke today. No further word on his condition.
Finally, the Head Elf managed to experience plantar fascia, and is sporting a rather bulky boot that, it is said, will clean up nicely after being severely and repeatedly abused in the mucky red clay. He will likewise be on the injured list Sunday, but some kid named Bush will see if he can gain a few yards for him.
Well, that’s the news for now. Remember you are always welcome at the site. Even if the skill set doesn’t’ fit, come out and take a look see. Bring coffee and/or donuts. Or just to chat a minute.
